About us Connecting the UK to the world and the world to the UK, the British Council is the UKs international cultural relations body. In an inter-dependent, turbulent world we believe that creating opportunities for people to understand each other better, work together more and learn from one another is crucial to building secure, more prosperous and sustainable futures for us all. Our Climate Change programme Climate change is the biggest challenge currently facing mankind and its impact will affect us all, but inevitably some more than others. Our role in creating the problems is indisputable. Unless we limit the emissions of greenhouse gases within the next decade or so, we know that the economic and social impacts will escalate with catastrophic outcomes. We also know that answers exist – or can be developed, if we are ready to change our behaviours and invest in technology and other solutions. Success also requires us to reach agreement and then implement a set of suitably robust international actions to limit greenhouse gas emissions. By using our extensive international networks to develop a range of perspectives we will help to increase the understanding of climate change issues, leading to consensus building about climate actions and solutions. Our Climate Change programme will help: achieve understanding of the case for tackling climate change now |
